Pathway of an Innovative Medic – future technologies at the Medical University of Gdańsk

On 8th–9th December this year, the Sports Centre of the Medical University of Gdańsk will be transformed into a state-of-the-art training hospital.

An event of this scale has never before been organised in Poland. On 8th–9th December 2025, the Medical University of Gdańsk, the University Clinical Centre, and the POLMED Chamber will launch the country’s largest interactive space dedicated to teaching modern medicine, located within the MUG Sports Centre.

Registration is now open for Pathway of an Innovative Medic – medical devices in clinical practice.

During the two-day event, more than 1,500 medical-university students and healthcare professionals will take part in over 70 workshops, where they will experience first-hand what it is like to work in a medical centre of the future — surrounded by surgical robots, advanced imaging systems, AI, VR and AR technologies, innovative laparoscopic tools, and premium-class procedural simulators.

Ścieżka Innowacyjnego Medyka

The most advanced medical-training space in Poland

For two days, the Medical University of Gdańsk will become a place where education meets technology on a scale unprecedented at Polish universities. Med-tech companies, clinicians and professional instructors will recreate the work environment of modern surgical and diagnostic centres, enabling each participant to perform simulations of advanced medical procedures.

- The aim of this two-day event is to familiarise students, doctoral candidates, physicians, and representatives of other medical professions with modern solutions in medicine, while enabling them to develop the practical competencies essential in today’s healthcare system,” says Prof. Michał Markuszewski, Rector of MUG. - It is a unique opportunity to explore cutting-edge technologies, learn about innovations applied in medicine, and see products that may help patients return to health more quickly. We encourage you to invite your students to attend these workshops in place of traditional classes in the lecture hall or laboratory — join us at the MUG Sports Centre to experience medicine at the highest level.

Participants will have the opportunity to take part in, among others:

• peeling an egg with a neurosurgical drill – a classic exercise for developing precision in neurosurgery;

• performing a breast biopsy… on a turkey breast – a realistic simulation of tissue-sampling techniques;

• surgical suturing on watermelons and melons;

• first robotic incisions using surgical phantoms;

• AI systems generating medical documentation in real time;

• orthopaedic surgery in VR with biomaterial implantation;

• dozens of stations for manual, endoscopic, imaging-based and procedural practice.

This fully cost-free educational event is designed to prepare future healthcare professionals to work with the technologies that will play an increasingly significant role in medicine in the years ahead.

- The Pathway of an Innovative Medic is a project redefining the way we teach. We combine clinical education with state-of-the-art technologies so that students can experience the reality of working in the medicine of tomorrow. In one place, we bring together experts from across Poland, surgical robots, AI systems and advanced diagnostic solutions. As the POLMED Chamber, we firmly believe that only hands-on learning with the equipment young medical professionals will ultimately use in hospitals can adequately prepare them for the challenges ahead, says Arkadiusz Grądkowski, President of the POLMED Chamber.

Attendance has already been confirmed by, among others, the Minister of Health, the President of the National Health Fund, the President of the Office for Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices and Biocidal Products, and the President of the Supreme Medical Chamber.

The presence of key representatives of institutions responsible for the healthcare system underscores the importance and national significance of this initiative for medical education in Poland.
