The academic degree of Doctor Honoris Causa is conferred by universities upon individuals of exceptional merit. At the Medical University of Gdańsk, the tradition of awarding this highest academic distinction dates back to the mid-1960s. Since 1965, the title has been granted to 48 individuals.
