The Medical University of Gdańsk has published its first Sustainable Development Report, devoted to the University’s activities in relation to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The publication, announced on 8 October, covers activities, data and examples of the MUG’s engagement from 2024–2025.
The report systematises and discusses the key forms of the University’s social, scientific, educational and organisational engagement in the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It shows how the MUG’s activities translate into public health, quality of life, the development of science, medical education, responsible governance and cooperation with social, academic and international partners.
The document combines quantitative data with descriptions of specific activities carried out by the MUG academic community. It includes, among others, scientific publications assigned to individual goals, citations, information on project funding, educational activities, infrastructure, social engagement and organisational initiatives. Each area is presented through selected examples that show the scale and nature of the University’s impact.
The public health perspective is of particular importance in the report. For a medical university, sustainable development means not only environmental or organisational activities, but above all responsibility for patients, the education of future medical professionals, the development of research, prevention, the popularisation of knowledge and the building of partnerships with the wider community.
The publication shows that the MUG’s activity in the area of the SDGs is multidimensional. It includes scientific research and medical projects, activities for patients and residents of the region, educational initiatives, support for students and employees, infrastructure development, responsible governance practices, and national and international cooperation. The report is not a complete catalogue of all initiatives, but an organised overview of the most important data and examples illustrating the significance of the University’s social impact.
The first Sustainable Development Report of the Medical University of Gdańsk summarises the University’s activities to date, while also opening a new stage in the systematic description of its impact. It shows that social responsibility is not an addition to academic activity, but an integral part of the mission of a medical university — implemented through science, teaching, patient care, cooperation with partners and the day-to-day functioning of the institution.
