Gdańsk Medical University will host Gennaro Madonna, the second-place winner of the 5th edition of the Daniel Fahrenheit Scholarship. The one-year research internship will begin in January 2027 and will focus on mechanisms involved in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
Gennaro Madonna is currently a PhD student at the University of Naples Federico II. His research project, titled Adenosine-dependent mechanisms of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, will be carried out at Medical University of Gdańsk as part of the scholarship programme.
The Daniel Fahrenheit Scholarship is funded by the Mayor of Gdańsk in consultation with the Fahrenheit Universities – Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk. The programme offers international PhD students the opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary research in Poland. Each scholarship holder receives PLN 6,500 net per month for the duration of the internship, as well as free accommodation.
Three winners were selected in the 5th edition of the programme. First place was awarded to Marina di Oliveira from the Federal University of Uberlândia, whose research focuses on carbon-based electrodes, environmental remediation and monitoring of emerging contaminants. Her host institution will be Gdańsk University of Technology.
Third place went to Omar Ouzaguine from Ibn Zohr University. His research interests include the optimisation of composites derived from MOF materials to improve the efficiency of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution. His host institution will be the University of Gdańsk.
The internships of all three scholarship holders are scheduled to start at the beginning of January 2027.
