– All our staff – academic, research-and-teaching, teaching, and administrative alike – deserve sincere thanks for their commitment, determination, and daily effort, thanks to which we achieve ever better results year after year. The pursuit of the highest quality in everything we do remains a core value of our University, emphasised Prof. Michał Markuszewski, Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk. Our ambition is for the Medical University of Gdańsk to belong to the group of the most prestigious and recognisable universities, a natural choice not only for students, but also for outstanding researchers from Poland and abroad, whom we warmly invite to collaborate with us, he added.
As in the 2025 edition of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the Medical University of Gdańsk maintained its highest scores in the indicators Research Quality and Industry Income, thereby reaffirming its position among reputable academic centres distinguished not only by their advanced research infrastructure and the quality of their research output, but also by their strong record of research commercialisation.
MUG was assessed among a record 2,191 academic institutions participating in the ranking, advancing to a joint fifth place among 42 Polish universities. In the overall global classification, the University was ranked in the 1001–1200 bracket. The University of Oxford and the Jagiellonian University led the world and Polish rankings respectively in the same categories.
It is noteworthy that out of the six performance indicators used in the assessment, the Medical University of Gdańsk achieved progress in four key areas over the past year – including teaching and research commercialisation.
– Maintaining top scores in both research quality and industry income confirms that our investments in research infrastructure and culture are yielding tangible results. The advancement in the national ranking, alongside a stable global position, signals that our strategy – combining high-quality science with commercialisation – is effective. Within the framework of the ACE2-EU European Universities Alliance, we are now accelerating the internationalisation of teaching and research to better prepare our students and doctoral candidates for the challenges of modern medicine, stated Prof. Anna Żaczek, Vice-Rector for Development and Cooperation.
Through international collaboration in both teaching and research, MUG students and doctoral candidates will receive even better preparation for professional practice, as well as acquire the skills necessary to engage socially and fulfil the medical mission in an era of global challenges. One of the most promising and increasingly significant areas of the University’s focus will continue to be the commercialisation of scientific research, in which the Medical University of Gdańsk has been achieving steadily improving results. This strong field of institutional growth is reflected clearly in the latest ranking outcomes.
