Four principal objectives of the new institutional Strategy of the Medical University of Gdańsk have already been defined. The forthcoming phase will focus on refining the strategic initiatives within the operational objectives and designating their respective owners – that is, individuals substantively responsible for implementation. These matters, among others, will constitute a key element of the deliberations during a series of workshop meetings scheduled for selected working groups and thematic areas.
The Strategy will be developed in cooperation with experts from the University of Gdańsk, who have recently completed a comparable strategic process at their own institution using a dedicated IT tool developed internally at their University.
The inaugural meeting, held on 23th February at the Non-Invasive Medicine Centre, brought together nearly 80 participants representing all employee groups of our University, including members of the authorities, academic and administrative staff, doctoral candidates and students.
I encourage you to reflect openly on what we have already achieved and what we can still accomplish, said Prof. Michał Markuszewski, Rector of the MUG. Let us discuss our vision – what we want our University to be in five or ten years’ time. A university is its people – each and every one of you. Let us remember that our daily activities are undertaken not only for ourselves, but for others and for the good of the University – responsibly and with a sense of shared purpose.
During the meeting, participants were introduced to the digital tool which will significantly facilitate the management of the Strategy and its operational objectives. The system functions as a dynamic data repository, enabling ongoing reporting, monitoring and evaluation of the implementation status of individual tasks, operational objectives, strategic goals and, ultimately, entire strategic perspectives in real time, explained Assoc. Prof. Paweł Antonowicz, Ph.D., D.Sc., Vice-Rector for Development and Finance at the University of Gdańsk.
The 2026–2030 development Strategy of the Medical University of Gdańsk will be innovative in several respects. It will be based on the Balanced Scorecard methodology, incorporate a dynamic reporting model, define a development pathway for all organisational units of the University, and be formulated in collaboration with internal stakeholders, taking into account the broadest possible cross-sectional perspective across institutional areas.
I would like to thank all members of our University who have contributed to the development of the assumptions underlying the new Strategy, concluded the Rector of the MUG. I also thank those present here today for their participation and their devoted time. I encourage everyone to take part in the forthcoming workshops. The Strategy is an exceptionally important document – it is to be our shared undertaking, and we must work on it together. Ahead of our next meeting, let us reflect on the values which define our institutional identity, the ambitions which should shape our development, and the responsibility with which we will implement the Strategy we have developed collectively.
