Don't sleep! Go exploring! The Pomeranian Researchers' Night is now behind us

Pomorska Noc Naukowców

The Pomeranian Researchers' Night is now behind us, with the Medical University of Gdańsk acting as the principal coordinator. Participants could choose from dozens of events, including scientific demonstrations, laboratory tours, workshops and lectures. There was no shortage of interactive events, quizzes and competitions with prizes. Scientists stepped away from their everyday duties and research to show that science is interesting, fascinating and, above all, accessible to everyone.

At 5.00 p.m. in the Sports Centre of the Medical University of Gdańsk, this year's Pomeranian Researchers' Night was officially opened by Prof. Michał Markuszewski, Rector of MUG, who, together with Paweł Golak, Director of Hevelianum, and Dorota Barzowska, Head of the International Cooperation Department at the Gdynia Maritime University, welcomed the assembled guests.

This is yet another time that we are meeting at the Pomeranian Researchers' Night. I am very pleased that it has been possible to organise this event once again, and I am delighted by your presence. I am speaking here both to students and staff, but also to our guests – said the Rector of MUG, who, after welcoming the participants, delivered a lecture entitled Microbes, Diseases and Scholars, or What Pharmacometabolomics Is For.

Researchers' Night is a popular science event held every year in countries of the European Union on the last Friday of September.

Thirty-eight scientific stands, lectures and workshops on medical themes. This night is exceptional because we are part not only of the regional Researchers' Night but also of the European Researchers' Night, and this event takes place in several cities across Europe at the same time – said Adam Tuszyński from the Promotion Section of the Medical University of Gdańsk.

The event took place on 26th September at seven locations in the Tri-City area: at five universities (the Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology, the University of Gdańsk, the Polish Naval Academy, and the Gdynia Maritime University), at the branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Sopot, and at two science centres: Experyment and Hevelianum.

The event is financed with funds from the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme.
