We are pleased to announce that the Medical University of Gdańsk has, for the first time, been ranked among the top 500 medical universities worldwide in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
In the latest edition of the ranking, the University was placed within the 451–500 band in the field of Medicine, representing an advancement of two bands compared to 2025 (601–650). This marks a clear indication of the MUG’s growing position in the international academic landscape.
This advancement confirms the quality of our scientific and educational activities as assessed by an international community of experts. For the first time, we have been ranked among the top 500 medical universities in the world (out of 850 institutions included in the ranking). In Poland, we hold third place in the field of medicine, which confirms our strong and stable position among research universities. This is also a tangible benefit for our graduates and staff, as the growing prestige of the University translates into improved professional and academic opportunities. I would like to sincerely thank the entire MUG community for their contribution, commitment and daily efforts – this achievement is the result of your work, said Prof. Michał Markuszewski, Rector of the MUG.
In this year’s edition of the QS ranking, the discipline of Dentistry was assessed for the first time in relation to the Medical University of Gdańsk. In this category, the University achieved an H-index score of 60.8, slightly higher than that of Medicine (57.2). At the same time, Dentistry recorded a relatively strong citations indicator (51.4), which in QS methodology reflects the average number of citations per publication and their impact within the discipline.
A further noteworthy development is the progress in the Employer Reputation indicator for Medicine, which, for the first time, reached a measurable score of 30.3.
It is also important to note that Nursing and Pharmacy & Pharmacology are approaching the threshold of 50 points, which enables full classification within QS subject rankings. Their current scores – 48.6 and 48.8, respectively – suggest that even a modest improvement in the coming years could result in their inclusion in the ranking.
As emphasised by Prof. Anna Żaczek, Vice-Rector for Development and Cooperation at the MUG:
The advancement in the QS by Subject ranking should be interpreted as the result of a combination of factors, in particular improvements in bibliometric indicators and the growing recognition of our graduates and academic staff within the international community. The result achieved in Dentistry is particularly noteworthy, as it reflects the dynamic development of this discipline. At the same time, the presence of the Employer Reputation indicator in Medicine confirms that the quality of education is recognised by employers. Looking ahead, it will be crucial to further strengthen publication visibility and the internationalisation of research, which may contribute to expanding the MUG’s presence in additional subject rankings.
