Mikołaj Frankiewicz, M.D., Ph.D., of the Department of Urology at the Medical University of Gdańsk, has been elected Chair of the Trauma and Reconstructive Urology Working Group within the Young Academic Urologists (YAU) initiative of the European Association of Urology (EAU). He will assume the position in April 2027 for a four-year term. The MUG researcher has also been appointed to the Young Academic Urologists Board.
Young Academic Urologists is an expert initiative of the European Association of Urology that brings together selected, research-active urologists under the age of 40. Its objectives are to advance international research projects, foster scientific collaboration and support the development of future leaders in European urology. The Trauma and Reconstructive Urology Working Group currently comprises more than a dozen researchers representing institutions across Europe and the Americas.
As Chair, he will coordinate the working group's activities, oversee the development of its research projects and strengthen international collaboration. His responsibilities will also include cooperation with other bodies within the European Association of Urology, including its scientific sections, the EAU Guidelines Office, which is responsible for developing European clinical guidelines, and the European School of Urology.
His appointment to lead this international expert group recognises his scientific achievements to date and further strengthens the Medical University of Gdańsk's involvement in the structures of the European Association of Urology and in international research projects in reconstructive urology. Since 2026, he has also served as a member of the Board of the Section of Functional and Reconstructive Urology and Physiotherapy of the Polish Urological Association.
