Researchers affiliated with the Medical University of Gdańsk have once again been included in the international ranking of the world’s top 2% of scientists. The 2026 edition includes a total of 32 individuals affiliated with the University: 21 in the category assessing the impact of research output over an entire scientific career (career) and 25 in the ranking based on citations received in 2025 (single year). Fourteen researchers appear on both lists.
The Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators database identifies scientists whose publications have achieved notable impact, as measured by bibliometric indicators derived from Scopus data. In the 2026 edition, the career-long analysis covers data through the end of 2025, while the annual assessment considers citations received during the 2025 calendar year, including citations to works published in earlier years.

A graduate of the MUG, Krzysztof Mrózek, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc., was also included on both lists. His affiliation in the database is The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The ranking also includes scientists associated with the MUG International Advisory Board, which operates under the Excellence Initiative – Research University programme. Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak, a the MUG graduate and Ambassador, together with Prof. Christoph C. Zielinski, Prof. Reinhold Kreutz, Prof. Giuseppe Mancia and Prof. Sir Magdi H. Yacoub, were included in both categories. Prof. Andrea Gallamini appears on the career list. As their affiliations in the database are with institutions outside Poland, these individuals are not included among the 32 researchers attributed to the MUG.
The ranking, compiled by a team associated with Stanford University and published in the Elsevier Data Repository, uses a composite bibliometric indicator known as the c-score. This measure takes into account, among other factors, citation counts, the h-index, a co-authorship-adjusted index and the researcher’s authorship position in published papers. The inclusion of the MUG-affiliated researchers in both categories reflects the international visibility and impact of their scholarly work.
The full results and methodology are available in the Elsevier Data Repository.
