The Choir of the Medical University of Gdańsk is one of the oldest and most distinguished academic choral ensembles in Poland. It was founded in 1946 on the initiative of Paweł Kukliński. In 1947, artistic leadership was assumed by Tadeusz Tylewski. From 1988, the ensemble was led for 30 consecutive years by Jerzy Szarafiński. The Choir is currently conducted by Błażej Połom, Ph.D. under whose direction it continues to strengthen its position on both the national and international choral scene.
About the MUG Choir
The ensemble regularly achieves top distinctions at prestigious competitions and festivals in Poland and abroad. Recent accomplishments include the Grand Prix, a Gold Diploma, and the award for Best Conductor at the Feliks Nowowiejski International Choral Music Festival in Barczewo (2025), as well as the Grand Prix and a Gold Diploma at the 54th National Choir Tournament Legnica Cantat (2024).
At the Grand Prix of Polish Choral Music in Poznań (2024), the Choir was recognised for its exceptional artistic sensitivity, receiving awards for the best performance of a contemporary composition and for the most interesting repertoire.
The Choir’s activities extend beyond competitions and festivals, as it is actively engaged in projects that go beyond the traditional choral repertoire. One such example is the album Tam i Tu (2022), recorded in collaboration with renowned artists, which combines choral music with modern jazz.
For nearly 80 years, the ensemble has continuously represented the Medical University of Gdańsk, serving as an important element of its cultural life and as an ambassador of the Tri-City musical community.

We warmly invite students and staff of the Medical University of Gdańsk to join the Choir, regardless of prior stage experience. We particularly encourage male singers to strengthen the tenor and bass sections. If you wish to develop your vocal skills, work within an ambitious ensemble, and contribute to unique musical projects, we would be delighted to welcome you.
