Prof. Dr. Habil. Agnieszka Zimmermann
Agnieszka Zimmermann served as Vice-Dean for the Quality of Education and Student Placements at the Faculty of Health Sciences in the years 2020–2022, and as Vice-Rector for the Quality of Education in the years 2022–2024. She is the Head of the Department of Medical and Pharmaceutical Law at the Medical University of Gdańsk.
She coordinated the team responsible for developing the Recommendations of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Medical Universities (KRAUM) concerning education in medical programmes, which were officially adopted and published by KRAUM in 2023.
She is a graduate of pharmacy at the Medical Academy in Gdańsk (currently the Medical University of Gdańsk), class of 1998, and of law at the University of Gdańsk, class of 2000. She initiated the establishment of the Centre for Teaching Support at GUMed, created with funding from the project “Teaching Excellence at Universities” (2023). She is an advocate of the development of evidence-based medical education. She is a scientific co-editor of the following publications (in Polish): Modern medical education. Implementation of innovations at the Medical University of Gdańsk; Modern medical education. Teaching innovations at the Medical University of Gdańsk; and Modern medical education. Strategies for increasing student engagement at the Medical University of Gdańsk.
Since 2020, she has served as Vice-President of the Polish Pharmaceutical Society (established in 1947). Since 2012, she has been Chair of the National Section of Pharmaceutical Law of the Polish Pharmaceutical Society.
Since 2026, she has been a member of the Main Council of Science and Higher Education, serving on its Presidium.
Her professional expertise lies in pharmaceutical and medical law. She served as Deputy Chair of the ministerial team responsible for drafting the Act on the Profession of Pharmacist (Journal of Laws of the Ministry of Health, 2017, item 106) and coordinated the conceptual and legislative work on the draft act. The Act entered into force in April 2021, introducing numerous pioneering solutions for the pharmaceutical profession. She was also a member of the ministerial team for the pilot implementation of pharmaceutical care (Journal of Laws of the Ministry of Health, 2017, item 107).
In her research, she focuses primarily on the legal determinants of the functioning of the system of drug distribution and reimbursement, as well as the autonomy of medical professions in the context of pharmacotherapy safety and patient safety. In 2013, she founded the first Student Scientific Association of Pharmaceutical Law at a medical university in Poland.
She has been awarded the Silver Cross of Merit (2023), the Medal for Meritorious Service to Health Care granted by the Minister of Health (2025), and the Gold Badge of Merit for the Polish Diabetes Association (2005). She was included in the “100 in Healthcare” ranking published by Puls Medycyny magazine in 2023.
