The 6-10-14 for Health programme, implemented at the University Clinical Centre, the MUG hospital, has once again received international certification from EASO COM (European Association for the Study of Obesity – Collaborating Centre for Obesity Management) in the paediatric section, confirming its status as a reference centre of the European Association for the Study of Obesity for another three-year period –from 1st March 2026 to 28th February 2029.

The 6-10-14 for Health programme is a public health programme funded by the City of Gdańsk and implemented at the University Clinical Centre, the MUG hospital, for 15 years. It encompasses activities in the areas of prevention, diagnosis, and comprehensive treatment of childhood and adolescent obesity, as well as support for families in changing lifestyle behaviours.

EASO COM certification is awarded to centres that meet rigorous European criteria for interdisciplinary care of patients with obesity. Assessment criteria include, among others, the structure of the therapeutic team, access to specialised diagnostics and treatment of complications, the model of patient and family care, educational activity, and the clinical infrastructure of the centre.

EASO certification confirms that the care model implemented at the UCC combines high-quality clinical medicine, an interdisciplinary approach, and public health activities. Maintaining this status demonstrates the stability of the team, clinical infrastructure, and the long-term effectiveness of the programme. At the same time, the implementation of the programme creates significant scientific potential – enabling population-based research, long-term analysis of treatment outcomes, and the development of new models of care for children with obesity, which is important both for clinical practice and for the development of medical knowledge, explains Paulina Metelska, Ph.D. from the Department of Public Health and Social Medicine at the Medical University of Gdańsk.

In the evaluation process, not only the activities of the programme itself were analysed, but also the capabilities of the entire University Clinical Centre, including access to specialist consultations, paediatric departments, and advanced diagnostics services. This means that the reference centre status applies to the institution’s overall potential.

The programme includes screening activities in the school population, long-term interdisciplinary care, and extensive health education. Every year it provides care to hundreds of children and their caregivers.

The programme’s renewed certification confirms that it maintains a high level of care in accordance with European standards and highlights the significance of the centre within the international cooperation network in the field of paediatric obesity treatment.
