New comfortable acoustic armchairs have been introduced within the premises of the Medical University of Gdańsk to provide students and doctoral candidates with spaces conducive to quiet reflection, concentration and rest. Six of the armchairs have been placed in various areas of the Main Library and four additional units in the Atheneum Gedanense Novum building.
The modern armchairs are equipped with a sliding canopy that allows users to partially isolate themselves from their surroundings by covering the upper section of the seat. This solution promotes tranquillity and regeneration while simultaneously providing comfortable conditions for studying and using mobile devices. Owing to their design, the armchairs offer a sense of privacy, which is particularly important in shared spaces.
This is one of the elements of an ongoing process aimed at improving the comfort of students and doctoral candidates throughout their studies at our University. We are deeply committed to creating spaces which foster learning and community engagement – emphasised Prof. Aleksandra Gaworska-Krzemińska, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs at the MUG.
The purchase of the 10 armchairs was financed through a targeted grant from the Ministry of Health for initiatives supporting persons with special needs in ensuring full participation in the educational process – both at the stage of recruitment and during studies at degree and doctoral levels, as well as in the conduct of scientific research (project no. 50-20024). This investment constitutes an important element of the University’s efforts to enhance accessibility and to create a supportive academic environment.
The new armchairs have already attracted considerable interest among users of the Main Library and the Atheneum Gedanense Novum. They represent another step towards building a modern, open and accessible academic space that responds to the diverse needs of the MUG community.
