During the ceremonial inauguration of the 2026/2027 academic year, members of the Medical University of Gdańsk community received a printed, visually designed edition of the University’s Strategy for 2026–2030. The publication outlines the MUG’s principal objectives and development priorities, which will guide the University’s activities over the coming years.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Michał Markuszewski, Rector of the MUG, referred to the new Strategy, emphasising that it should be regarded not merely as a document, but above all as a point of reference for decision-making and the implementation of future initiatives.

– I am confident that the Strategy you are holding today, which we intend to regard not as a document but as a compass to guide us through the coming years, will lead us towards the development of our next Strategy, said the Rector.

Prof. Markuszewski also emphasised that the preparation of the Strategy was the culmination of several years of work by numerous individuals involved in defining strategic objectives, developing performance indicators and planning their implementation. He highlighted the importance of cooperation with the University of Gdańsk, thanking its Rector, Prof. Piotr Stepnowski, for his support throughout the process.

– The development of a modern university requires ambition, good ideas and people with the courage to put them into practice. It also requires the tools needed to translate those ideas into concrete actions, emphasised Prof. Michał Markuszewski.

Four strategic objectives, one shared direction

The planned activities address all key areas of the MUG’s operations: the quality of education, research development, cooperation with the clinical and socio-economic environment, internationalisation, and improvements in management and infrastructure. They are united by a shared commitment to the University’s sustainable development and the strengthening of its institutional potential.

The starting point for implementing the Strategy is MUG’s mission for 2030: “We create the future of medicine, caring for the health of generations.” This mission underscores the importance of the academic community and its responsibility for advancing medicine and safeguarding public health.

The presentation of the illustrated Strategy during the inauguration symbolically marks the beginning of the next stage in implementing its objectives. The Strategy is intended to serve as a common point of reference for the entire academic community, helping to translate long-term goals into specific initiatives and actions.

We encourage all members of the academic community to explore the illustrated edition of the MUG Strategy for 2026–2030, which presents the key objectives and initiatives that will shape the University’s development in the years ahead.
